The Effects of Body Stress

What body stress does to your body

When the body is no longer capable of adapting to the stresses it is subjected to, it reaches overload and the body goes into protective mode, using the muscles to splint the area and the tension becomes “locked” into the physical structure. Over a period of times, several layers of muscles will become affected, like the layers in an onion.

However, it is quite possible that the individual may not be aware of the body stress, due to the compression of spinal nerves and decreased sensation(numbness) in areas. It may be accepted as normal to have a less than 100% sense of well-being, and factors such as the weather or age can be blamed.

When tension is locked into the body, it causes disruption of the energy flow and as the situation progresses; the body goes into a downward spiral of degeneration, and moves away from optimum health.

It is possible that people try to deal with the stress overload in further destructive ways such as overeating, excessive drinking, over-exercising or using drugs – actually introducing further stress and compounding the problems.

Body stress may be experienced as:

  • Pain - This is the most common reason people come for BSR, as we all want to be free of pain. As body stress compresses the nerves, the result is often – pain.
  • Musculo-skeletal complaints including whiplash, frozen shoulders, repetitive strain injuries, hip pain, arthritis, neck pain, sports injuries, trapped nerves, scoliosis, bad posture, grinding of teeth.
  • Gynaecological disorders including fertility problems, painful and irregular period, menopausal side effects.
  • Emotional problems including insomnia, anxiety, stress, general fatigue.
  • Gastro-intestinal complaints including heartburn, indigestion, IBS, constipation, diarrhoea.
  • Childhood complaints including colic in babies, poor posture, growing pains in children, bed-wetting.

I have been going to Retha for Body Stress Release on a regular basis and I cannot explain how my body feels after BSR sessions with her... I can only say that it is how I always imagined my body was supposed to feel ... light, pain free, comfortable. Thank you Retha! You are truly amazing!

Retha is really professional. I had 3 sessions with her just before lockdown... and it was really amazing. I could feel the tension and stress leaving. I suffered from upper back..and lower neck pain for almost 6 months on and off...and it was gone immediately after the first session with her...came back a bit a few days later...but then gone so far after session 3 now for 3 weeks! I can really highly recommend her.

After falling of my horse and collided with steel poles i could barely move. Hurt my shoulder, elbow and coccyx quite badly and extremely sore muscles i went to see Retha. Within hours after my first session i could move around and sore muscles were not as bad. She also pointed out some other issues i had and worked on them as well. Within a few days my elbow and shoulder were good to go and i could go back to my normal routine of riding and working.
